WHO ARE WE ? |

The Institute for Development of Community Strengths (INDECOS) is a non-profit and non-government organization registered with the Department of Social Services as a voluntary body and registered at the NGO Secretariat of Ministry of Social Services.
Due to uncertain political, social and economic circumstances in the Southern Regional of Sri Lanka during 1987/89 many government, non-government, community based organizations and the private sector ceased operation.
A small group of educated, experienced and dedicated professionals from both the government and NGO sectors recogninized the need for an independent organization and implemented programs irrespective of race, religion, caste, party politics and other social stratification and initiated the organization in 1990.
INDECOS now works in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka covering Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts. In a span of ten years INDECOS has grown to become one of the key non-governmental organizations in the Province.
INDECOS is a Community development and training based organization.
The focus for our community development work is to involve the community through participation in the design, implementation, management and post-execution of programs. Education and awareness raising programs are conducted with the participatory approach involving group activities and discussion groups.

To improve the quality of life of community members through capacity building, participatory, and gender equity approaches through the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
INDECOS achieves this objective through practical skills development programs, education programs and awareness raising on important topics; particularly those that help address social and economic problems.
